Physical Changes: What To Expect When Getting Older - Weight Loss Stories

Physical Changes

As you get older, you can expect a lot of things to change, good and bad. The key is to accept the process, and enjoy it, and this can be done when you have a true understanding of the things that are going on with you physically, so it doesn't come as a surprise or shock in the future.

Here are some of the common things that will start to change now you're aging.

Your heart.

Your heart can get bigger, which means the rate in which it beats can decrease a little in speed. The walls of your heart can thicken up too, meaning it may not pump blood effectively. This can happen for a number or reasons like high blood pressure, although there isn't always a cause. Having said that, following a healthy diet and regular exercise plan can help to keep your heart healthy.

Your bones.

As time goes on, your bones will start to get thinner, which means they are a lot more prone to breaking. In some cases, you can get a fragile bone condition called osteoporosis. This is when you have to pay extra attention when moving around, as one little fall could cause a bone to break. You should talk to your physician about this, as they will be able to advise you on how you can prevent and avoid this from happening.

Your brain and nervous system.

The older you get, the slower your reflexes may become, this is because over time your brain cells get old too, and may become damaged. This means you may start to forget things, or in worse cases, get dementia.

Dementia can become severe to where you would be safer staying in a nursing home where you can get the proper care you need. Elder Needs Law can help advise you on various payment plans if you don't have the finances available.

Your senses.

Over time, you may start to notice that you can't see as well as you used to, so have to wear glasses. Or you find yourself asking people to repeat themselves because you're having trouble hearing them. You can also start to lose your sense of taste with certain foods, and even smell and touch. This is because your body is taking longer to react because your cells aren't as fresh anymore, so you may need more to stimulate them.

Your digestive system.

The way your body digests food can become a lot firmer and stiff, and because of this is won't be able to contract as often as it used to. This can end up causing you slight discomfort from feeling constipated or even nauseous, although a better diet should be able to help that.

Your skin.

With old age, comes old skin. Your elasticity isn't what is was, and your skin will begin to sag and wrinkle.

This is something that we all expect to happen, but when it does, we can't quite believe it. Even with the right skin care regime and healthy lifestyle, you will still get wrinkles eventually. So embrace them, and see them each as a story and experience you've had.
