How To Make The Perfect Air Fryer Salmon - Weight Loss Stories

Introduction

Making an air fryer salmon dish couldn't be easier. If you are an air fryer expert, you already know how simple they are to use. If you're like me and only learned about air fryers recently, you may think they're yet another space-wasting appliance you only use once and forget about at the back of the cupboard. But this is not the case. If you are a fan of fried food but dislike home fryers and don't want to get fast food all the time, an air fryer may be the solution you're looking for.

About Air Fryers

Air fryers are great devices for anyone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen and doesn't like to skimp on some of their favorite foods like potato chips, french fries, chicken and other fried foods. Air fryers can make these foods in large quantities and makes cooking for parties or large families much easier. You also have the benefit of turning on the timer and walking away to prepare sides or set the table as the fryer cooks. There is no limit to the kinds of foods you can make in one of these fryers. Ordinarily, fried foods are made with an oil fryer which is an open-faced machine that cooks foods in a bath of hot oil. Good air fryers are fundamentally different from oil fryers in several different ways:

Fryer Salmon

The danger to the User:

Oil fryers have open tops where you put the food in its oil bath. The heat can cause bubbles to form and burst on the surface and the user is in danger of getting splattered with boiling oil. With air fryers, the food is coated with a thin layer of oil and put into a closed chamber which poses no danger of burns to the user.

Cleaning and Storage:

After each use, the large quantity of oil in a fryer must be safely disposed of, which is a messy endeavor. If it splatters while cooking, you also have to clean up that mess. Also using all that oil each time gets costly. With air fryers, all you need to do is wipe out the chamber and you simultaneously keep costs down.

Health:

When the food is in an oil fryer it tends to absorb excess oil, which boosts the fat content of the food and makes it more calorie-dense and unhealthy. As foods in air fryers only need a thin coating of oil, foods will stay lower-calorie and better for you.

Overall, air fryers can have great benefits over oil fryers. However, one thing to remember is that air fried food is still fried and therefore, causes more of a health risk with heart conditions and type 2 diabetes than foods cooked with other methods like baking and sautee. Speaking of health, that brings us to one of the healthiest proteins on the planet.

About Salmon:

Salmon is a cold-water fish with the most delicious pinkish-red flesh. Not only is it tasty but salmon is one of the healthiest protein sources, packed with nutrition and vitamins. It has all the B-vitamins, which are essential for fighting inflammation, protecting heart and brain health, and giving you energy. It has a wealth of potassium which helps control blood pressure. It contains over half the daily recommended dose of selenium which helps promote bone health and fight cancer. It is also packed with the healthy fats, Omega 3's, 6's and 9's, which help promote heart health, fight diabetes and help control weight. Cooking salmon usually takes very little time which makes it a perfect meal for busy families. You can make salmon in an air fryer which will give it a flaky outer skin and a tender middle. Here is a great way to make salmon easily and quickly in the air fryer:

Air Fryer Salmon Recipe Ingredients:

2-4 Salmon fillets, farm or wild, with bones removed
4 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
4 teaspoons minced garlic
4 teaspoons paprika
salt and coarse black pepper for seasoning
lemon wedges

Directions:

1. If your salmon still has bones, remove them. Use needle-nose pliers to avoid tearing up the meat of the fish.

2. Make sure the fish is completely de-frosted and rub each fillet with olive oil and garlic. Season them generously with the paprika, salt, and pepper.

3. Depending on how big your air fryer is, you may have to do 2 fillets at a time or all 4. Just make sure there is a small amount of space in between each fillet so the air and heat can even get to all sides.

4. Set the air fryer for 390 degrees for 7 minutes if the fillets are roughly one and a half inches thick. Add only a few extra minutes for thicker fillets; remember that salmon cook quickly.

5. When you hear the timer, open the basket and check the fillets to make sure they are done. Poking them with a fork should give you a good indication, as well as inspecting the outside for a crisp and flaky looking layer. If they are not done yet, let them cook for a couple more minutes but watch them closely; you don't want to overcook a salmon.

6. Serve salmon with lemon wedges with some of your favorite sides (one of mine is sauteed asparagus with garlic).
